Steps to Study in the UK

Follow these 13 essential steps to begin your educational journey in the United Kingdom

Research & Choose Course/University

Select a course eligible for Student visa (previously Tier 4) and make sure the university is a UKVI-approved sponsor.

Prepare Academic & English Documents

Academic transcripts, certificates, UKVI IELTS or PTE Academic UKVI (not general IELTS). Some universities accept MOI (Medium of Instruction) for English.

Apply to the University (Online)

Via the university website or UCAS. Attach SOP, LORs, passport, certificates, etc.

Receive Conditional/Unconditional Offer Letter

Conditional = further requirements (e.g. IELTS, final transcript). Unconditional = you're accepted and ready for CAS.

Pay Initial Tuition Deposit

Commonly £3,000 – £5,000. Payment needed to request CAS letter. Keep bank receipts safe.

Receive CAS Letter

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies letter from university. Contains your details, course info, financial requirements.

Do a TB Test at IOM (Kathmandu)

Mandatory for Nepali students. Cost: around NPR 9,000 – 10,000. Book online: https://www.iom.int

Prepare Financial Documents

28-day bank statement showing balance covering remaining tuition fees plus 9 months' living cost (£1,023/month outside London). Balance should be held for 28 consecutive days in a UKVI-recognized bank.

Apply for UK Student Visa Online

Through UKVI portal: https://www.gov.uk/student-visa. Pay visa fee (~£490) and IHS fee (~£776/year). Upload documents online or use TLScontact center in Kathmandu.

Attend Biometrics Appointment

At TLSContact, Panipokhari. Carry passport and original documents. Choose between Standard (3 weeks), Priority (5-7 days), or Super Priority (24h) service.

Wait for Visa Decision

Standard: up to 15 working days. Track online or via SMS.

Receive Visa & Collect BRP

Visa sticker valid for 30 days. BRP to be collected from post office in the UK within 10 days of arrival.

Book Flights and Travel to the UK

Check baggage and COVID/travel guidelines (if any). Carry passport, visa, CAS, TB report, fee receipts, etc.
