Steps to Study in Ireland from Nepal

Follow these 11 essential steps to begin your educational journey in Ireland

Choose a Course and University

Select a course aligned with your academic background and future goals. Choose a university or college from the official Irish government list of approved institutions. Use websites like: https://www.educationinireland.com, https://hea.ie. Intakes: Main Intake: September, Some universities offer January intake as well.

Meet Language Requirements (IELTS/PTE)

English proficiency is mandatory: IELTS Academic: Minimum 6.0–6.5 overall, no band less than 5.5. PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, or Duolingo English Test also accepted by many colleges.

Apply to the University or College

Apply directly via the university's website or through trusted education agents. Required documents: Academic transcripts (SLC/SEE + 10+2 + Bachelor's if applying for Master's), IELTS/PTE certificate, Passport copy, Statement of Purpose (SOP), CV / Resume, Letter of Recommendation (if required).

Receive the Offer Letter

You will get either a Conditional Offer (based on pending docs) or Unconditional Offer. Fulfill conditions if any, and prepare for the next step.

Pay Tuition Fee (Minimum 1 Year)

Tuition fees usually range from €9,000 to €15,000/year. Pay at least 1 year's tuition fee to receive final documents for visa. Collect your payment receipt.

Purchase Private Health Insurance

Mandatory for all international students. Some popular insurers: Study & Protect, O'Driscoll O'Neil, Irish Life. Cost: ~€150–€200/year.

Arrange Financial Proof (for Irish Visa)

You must prove that you have: Tuition fees (already paid – show receipt), Living expenses: Minimum €10,000 per year (2025 requirement). Financial documents: Bank balance certificate and 6-month statement, Fixed deposits, Sponsor Letter (if parent or guardian is paying), Source of income (tax documents, salary slips).

Prepare Visa Application Documents

Apply for a Long Stay Student Visa (D-Type). Required documents: Passport, Offer letter, Tuition payment receipt, Health insurance proof, Financial documents, Academic certificates, IELTS/PTE certificate, SOP, Accommodation confirmation (optional but recommended), Visa application form (filled online via AVATS). Visa Fee: €60 (single entry).

Apply for Visa Online (AVATS)

Go to: https://www.visas.inis.gov.ie. Complete AVATS form and print summary. Submit documents to VFS Global (Kathmandu) or courier to Irish Visa Office (Delhi).

Wait for Visa Decision

Processing time: 4–8 weeks. Track your application via VFS or Embassy portal. You'll receive a Visa Approval Letter followed by a Visa Sticker on your passport.

Book Flight and Travel to Ireland

Book your flight once your visa is approved. Carry all key documents: Passport + Visa, Offer letter, Insurance certificate, Proof of finances, Tuition payment receipt. After arrival: Register with GNIB (Irish Immigration) and get your IRP card, Pay registration fee: €300.
